Hensoldt Eye-Safe Laser Rangefinders –

LRF Modules with State-of-the-Art Carl Zeiss Optics

Proven Technology Under a New Name

Hensoldt acquired a majority stake in the defense and security division of Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH on October 1, 2012. Renamed Hensoldt, this new company pairs the optical and optronic skills of Carl Zeiss with the abilities and reach of a global leader in security solutions.

For more than 120 years, they have developed and produced optical technologies and systems for customers worldwide. Their precision and reliability are prized in both military and civilian applications. Now, as part of the EADS division Hensoldt, they are able to achieve the most important objective: To support the people whose mission is to protect the world.

Accurate Distance Measurements

The ability to accurately determine distances is equally vital to civilian and military identification and surveillance missions. Although each of Hensoldt’s laser rangefinders has been calibrated for certain ranges and attuned for specific operational purposes, all are easy to operate and extremely precise.

Field-Proven Performance

Hensoldt offers lasers for stationary targets that serve border patrol and customs agents well. They also bring considerable benefits to merchant marine and military forces. Fixtures in LEOPARD and ABRAMS main battle tanks for many years, their merits have been proven many times over in the field. Their maritime models, impervious to saltwater, are well-suited for deployment at sea.

Eye-Safe Laser Rangefinders

Hensoldt rangefinders for moving targets operate at high repetition rates, which makes them exceptionally accurate measuring devices. Hensoldt developed and continues to evolve these lasers principally for multi-sensor platforms and target tracking systems. They are suitable for land, water and aircraft. All their laser rangefinders meet a very important safety standard – they do no harm to the human eye.

HENSOLDT LDM PRODUCT FAMILY

Representative of a successful line of high range Laser Rangefinders.

The LDM Product Family completes the line of successful eye-safe Laser Rangefinders designed and  produced by Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH. Never before such a compact and lightweight rangefinder  reached a comparable range performance and repetition rate.

More

The LDM Product Family fulfills as independent sensor unit the requirements of modern optronic reconnaissance and target tracking systems that require a high repetition rate of measured ranges from fast moving targets.

The LDM Product Family may be adapted optimally and cost-efficiently to a multitude of applications by modification of the performance data and/or the functions.
Typical applications are in sensor heads for target acquisition and tracking, fire control, or surveillance platforms.

All models share the same coaxial optical interface for ease of system integration. Alignment to a visual sight of the customer is supported by an aim point projector.

The LDM Product Family consists of laser range finders offering superior performance by the use of an OPO-shifted Nd:YAG Laser at the „eye-safe“ wavelength of 1.5 μm.

The models differ in the range performance which is indicated by the first number after the „LDM“ initials, for example LDM 38 indicates an extiction value of ≥ 38 dB. They also differ in the electrical interface. The models with the „-461“ ending use an additional electrical filter  circuitry to fulfill electrical requirements for a stand-alone system.

The user interface of all LDMs is a serial data interface. There are no controls on any LDM.
